SRI LANKA TOURISM
An important example of the agility of the Spotl1ght team in providing PR and Communications support to clients through both good and bad times.
We were initially appointed to the Sri Lanka Tourism Board as a client with the brief to promote the destination and its continued growth of luxury hotels and resorts.
Just one month after being appointed Sri Lanka suffered a devastating tsunami that hit the Indian Ocean on Boxing Day 2004. We were asked to act on behalf of the Tourism Board in the UK handling all media enquiries related to travel and tourism. Our objective was to gradually re-build confidence through the media with the UK travel trade and the consumer. Key was the need to show, over a period of time, how tourism and its impact on the country’s economy was an integral part of that recovery. We created and implemented a 2 year programme of pro-active media activity in the UK – one of its key target markets – to help encourage tourists to return.
